How many Onward Scholarships are awarded every year?

OSP scholarships are annually awarded to 12 incoming 9th graders at each OSP school.

What is the criteria for admission to the program?

The admission committee seeks students who have demonstrated academic and leadership potential as middle school students. We expect all students to be proactive and positive role models in the school community. Applicants should be among the top students in their graduating class with a target 3.5 cumulative GPA. 

How important are GPA and/or test scores in the selection process of Onward Scholars?

The admission committee conducts a holistic application review. The student's GPA and test scores are among a number of factors that are considered. The committee also considers a student's extracurricular activities, leadership potential, and recommendations from community leaders. 

Where can I become an Onward Scholar?

You can become an Onward Scholar at Cathedral High School, Salesian High School, Sacred Heart High School, St. Anthony High School, St. Mary’s Academy, and St. Pius X - St. Matthias Academy. You must apply for admission and be accepted to an OSP school to be considered for the Onward Scholars Program. You must remain a student in good standing with a GPA of 3.5 or better to continue in the program during all four years of high school.

Is the scholarship only offered to students who qualify for financial assistance?

It is a need-aware program, but it is not solely need-based. Students selected will receive the full scholarship (75% of tuition) regardless of financial need. Additionally, students can apply for need-based assistance from an OSP school by submitting a separate, confidential Financial Aid application.

Can I apply to be an Onward Scholar if I apply to an OSP school as a transfer student?

No. The program provides four-year scholarships to incoming 9th graders at an OSP school. Peer support is an essential part of the program, which is built over the course of four years, starting in the first year when each new cohort of Scholars is selected.

Is the Onward Scholars Program guaranteed for four years, or do I need to reapply yearly?

Each spring, 9th, 10th, and 11th graders must fill out a renewal form and a program evaluation. An Onward Scholar student must maintain a 3.5 GPA and be in good disciplinary standing to continue to participate in the Onward Scholars Program.
