Cathedral High School was founded by Archbishop John J. Cantwell as the first Los Angeles Archdiocesan high school for boys in the fall of 1925. The Christian Brothers have operated Cathedral High School since its opening. Today Cathedral High School serves over 700 young men.

Meet Mr. J
Mr. Jelani Bramble-Manning is excited to begin working with Cathedral High School as their Onward Scholars Program Director. He is passionate about working with young people and helping them realize their potential. He hopes to create spaces for students to find their gifts and talents so that they can use them to do good in the world.
Mr. J is originally from Elk Grove, CA and is a product of Catholic education. He attended Jesuit High School in Sacramento and is a double alum of Loyola Marymount University (LMU), with his Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and Master’s Degree in Urban Education through the Partners in Los Angeles Catholic Education (PLACE Corps) program. Mr. J joined the Onward Scholars team with five years of teaching and two years of administrative experience in Catholic education.
Outside of work, Mr. J loves to travel and all things Disney! He also enjoys board games, the beach, and never passes on an opportunity to spend time with his family and friends. Mr. J is excited to share his gifts with the current and future Phantoms at Cathedral High School!
